This exhibit features Ghanaian artists Jerry Kayem Alifui and his protégé Nii Noi Mensah. Kayem, master painter, mosaic designer and woodcarver, developed his unique style of creating paintings using acrylics and Ghana fabrics, as well as mosaics made of hand-painted paper.
Nii Noi, now 19 years old, has studied with Kayem for over seven years. Nii Noi recently began a graphics design course, paid for by generous donations from Summit Middle School students to Faawonu.
Nii Noi and Kayem are part of a 'one love, one family' philosophy of the organization Kayem co-founded, Global Faawonu Organization. Global Faawonu Organization shares encouragement, love, art supplies and school fees to help Nii Noi and other kids dream big and excel. “Faawonu” means “Reach Out”. We encourage each person to Reach Out to find a way to help at risk kids around the world. www.faawonu.org. Or donate online through the US sponsor, Africa Centre www.africacentre.org.
